Wat Phra Si Mahathat of Thailand
The province of Phitsanulok is situated on the banks of Nan River in the lower northern part of Thailand. The province is approximately 377 kilometers from Bangkok. The entire province comprises mainly of flatland with mountain ranges towards the east, which are home to lush green national parks and waterfalls.
Phitsanulok was one of the important communities during the Khmer rule and it earned a lot of prosperity during the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods. Between 1463 and 1487, King Borom Trailokanat of Ayutthaya used to permanently live in the province, thus making it another royal capital.
Today Phitsanulok is a major tourist attraction that draws people not just from Thailand but also from around the world. People come to see the many tourist sites including the Wat Phra Si Mahathat.
The locals call Wat Phra Si Mahathat Wat Yai and it is situated on the east bank of Nan River within the limits of Phitsanulok town, the provincial capital. It is believed that the viharn of the temple is home to one of the most beautiful and elegant Buddha images in Thailand. The Buddha image is made from bronze in the Sukhothai style of architecture. It is officially known as Phra Phutthachinarat. Owing to its large size, many foreign and local visitors come to the temple daily to admire and pay respect to the image. Every year in late January, a celebration is held in the temple to honor Phra Phutthachinarat.
Another attractive aspect of the temple is its large pearl inlaid doors, which are at the entrance of viharn. It is believed that doors were crafted in the late Ayutthaya period around 1756. The temple also houses another image known as Phra Attharot, which is an 8-meter tall standing image of Buddha. Originally the Phra Phutthachinarat was housed in a large viharn but the roof is no longer there. So, the bronze image now stands in open air surrounded by large columns of the collapsed viharn.

Save Money on Your Vacation Budget By Packing Light
Most people don't actually realize the importance of packing light while traveling. Packing light is not only an option, it is actually very necessary if you want to avoid irritating problems and travel delays. Apart from that and more importantly, you save a lot of money when you can travel light.
A traveler with minimum baggage is not going to be so dependent on porters and will have fewer luggage hassles at the airport too. You can simply pick up your bag and be on your way. Besides, with lots of luggage to tow around you cannot really use public transport and this could save you a lot of money on your vacation.
Here are some good packing tips and with some careful planning you will find yourself traveling lighter and more hassle free; this will undoubtedly help to make your vacation more enjoyable and save quite a bit of money while you are on the move.
- Try to limit your goods to one piece of baggage, preferably a small one. This will save you the money to be paid for excess baggage. You will also feel much lighter and save on time, while you see other people waiting in line to claim their luggage.
- Try to keep all your valuables with you while you travel. This will avoid any kind of problems in case of missing luggage. Most airlines limit the amount of luggage one can take and also what you can keep with you while on board. In such cases it is necessary that you know exactly what to carry and what not to.
- While packing, make sure that all the things you might need during your journey are close to you. If you leave necessary things out of your reach in the luggage compartment and not in your hand baggage you may run into problems later.
- When you do your packing, remember that it is comfort which should take precedence over fashion. Pack clothes sensibly, keeping in mind the weather of the places you are going to. Take clothes which can be used for various occasions.
- Plan your clothing and the related accessories just like you would your trip so that you know exactly what you can wear on which day. Team up, skirts, trousers and shirts in such a way that each will compliment the other. That way you won't have to carry quite so many different items.
- If you don't have clothes that are usable, invest wisely in some articles of clothing which are light weight and stylish too. Double up your beach wear clothes to be used as night wear, that way you not only save money but will also travel a little lighter.
- While packing your shoes remember that they would be taking up a maximum amount of your packing space. So choose your foot wear wisely. If possible choose one pair that will serve you for both out doors as well as indoors.
- Use the small spaces or corners in your bag to pack in underwear or small stuff that you might need. Always roll your clothes instead of folding them, that will to keep them wrinkle free.
- Whenever possible pack small packets and sachets of toiletries. Most budget travelers collect such pocket sized toiletries from the hotels they might have visited on previous trips. This helps the budget traveler save the expense of buying new toiletries exclusively for traveling.
- Don't forget to pack useful small items that you might need while traveling. Finger nail clippers and tweezers, and a needle and thread are items not to be overlooked. You might also find it handy to have a small foldable bag with you so that in case of extra shopping you don't need to spend money on new containers to haul the things home..
Packing light will help you travel more comfortably and it will always help you to save on your travel budget.

Budget Travel Tips - Eight Simple Ways to Stretch Your Vacation Budget
Budget travel has become a necessity for most people with the cost of gasoline and other consumer products on the rise. But when we start considering when, where, how and what type of vacation to undertake, we sometimes get caught up in the anticipation and excitement of the upcoming trip and let the more important financial side of things slip a little. After all, for most of us, taking a vacation may only happen once a year and for some, even more infrequently, so we tend to indulge and forget about our pocket book a little.
There are many ways to save money, avoid unnecessary cost, ensure you take care of details end up a smart and perceptive traveler. Travel planning is easier that you might think and here are eight great budget travel tips for making your travel dollar go further!
1. Cushion your budget - When considering a trip or planning budget travel, it is important to plan for the unexpected and consider the financial side of things early on. This ensures affordability, liquidity and having the resources to enjoy it to the fullest! Plan for the worst-case financial scenario and prepare for things to cost a little more than you expected. Allow up to 20% increase in cost to be on the safe side of things.
2. Emergency money: Carrying some spare cash somewhere can also be a lifesaver. The rule of thumb seems to be around $50-$100 in small bills. This can be used for incidentals, ground-transportation like cab fare and/or your return home, tips and more.
3. Set your priorities: Set some budget travel spending priorities and criteria in advance, like eating at a special restaurant or attending a concert, even if this means sacrificing a bit on lodgings or visa versa, depending on what is more important to you.
4. Keep an eye on your credit cards: It is extremely easy these days to have access to your financial resources through ATM's and credit cards. Just remember that it is just as easy to overspend because of it being so readily available. A little discipline will go a long way to protect your financial interest and help you stick to your travel budget.
5. Maximize gas mileage and efficiency: If you're planning a road trip, make sure that your car has been serviced at least a week before your trip. A well-maintained vehicle will go a long way to ensure carefree driving. If your budget allows, you may consider renting a vehicle to save wear and tear on your own. Small economy cars are better on gas and are much more comfortable than they used to be. Minivans and sport utility vehicles are practical only if you have to transport a large family with a lot of equipment or luggage.
6. Gas fill-ups: For filling up your car en route, avoid pushing to the limit until the gas runs out. Gas will obviously be more expensive when filling up in remote locations. If you miscalculated and the light on the dashboard indicates that you are really in need, opt for filling just half a tank until you reach the next more densely or major populated destination, where gas might be a little cheaper.
7. Pack-a-snack: Bring your own refreshments and snacks. Gas station prices on drinks and snack food are high. Avoid these during a pit stop, if you are counting your budget travel dollars. A cooler packed with lots of cool drinks, water and ice and/or a thermos of coffee or hot water for tea, some fruit, granola bars, or a sandwich, goes a long way to still the hunger and save you money by avoiding all high priced stops en route.
8. Travel necessities: It is advisable to travel with basic necessities, like a cell phone and a first aid kit, since both can prove to be essential in emergencies. Most people have cell phones at their disposal, but in the event that you are not one of them, a prepaid cell phone may be the answer for your trip. The peace of mind it offers is worth the small investment. Cell phones can also save on hefty surcharges and higher long distance rates that hotels and resorts often charge.
Budget travel requires close attention to all things financial before and during your trip. Planning a trip or vacation can be a little time consuming but following these travel tips will hopefully save you a lot of headaches as well as some unnecessary interest charges on your credit card balances later! You will thank yourself for your fiscal restraint and spending discipline, upfront planning, foresight and forward thinking!

Find Cheap Travel Destinations - How About Nashville?
When I was growing up, the only vacations we took were trips to visit relatives. I got so tired of that, and I decided then and there that I would make it a point, once I was able, to take a vacation each year and stay in a hotel. No more spending the vacation at the relatives' house. Now don't get me wrong, I love my family, but on a vacation I just want the luxury of a nice hotel.
I encountered my first stumbling block when I took a look at my bank account. Not a lot of extra money for an extravagant trip! So I set about gathering a list of cheap travel destinations. If you do a little research, there are quite a few ways to take a vacation and not spend huge amounts of money. For example, I've always wanted to visit Tennessee as it looks so beautiful in photos. So for anyone who would like to visit Nashville on a budget, here are a few things to do and places to eat that won't cost you a leg and an arm.
For a fun snack while you are out and about, stop in at Bobbie's Dairy Dip at 5301 Charlotte Avenue. This is a classic fifties-type walk-up ice cream shop that not only sells absolutely yummy ice cream but also wonderful 100% certified Angus beef and Belgian style potatoes,
Stop in at the Davis-Kidd Booksellers and Cafe which offers story time for the kids, book club discussions, and many other book-related events. Locals stop by for dinner, espresso, and dessert. The store's selection of magazines is said to be unmatched. Head over to the bookstore's bistro on Sundays for their continental breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon.If you're lucky, you'll get to meet a best-selling author as they often appear to read and to sign their latest works.
Visit the First Center for the Visual Arts which hosts a spectacular array of art from around the world. This is a family-friendly non-traditional museum which the whole family will enjoy. One of the most popular areas of the center is the ArtQuest Gallery with activities for all ages. There are 20 interactive stations where you can do such things as make a print, paint your own original watercolor, create a sculpture, and more. There is also a gift shop and cafe. This is truly a wonderful place to spend a few hours on your trip to Nashville.
For another great museum stop, try the Tennessee State Museum. Some consider it the best museum in Nashville, and there is free admission too.
Go for a hike at the Radnor Lake State Natural Area. Radnor Lake is a nature sanctuary, so the trails are strictly used for hiking and wildlife observation. Wildlife abounds, and you can see geese, herons, salamanders, coots, and all manner of other interesting animals.
Many places offer horseback riding, which is a fun way to enjoy the scenery of this very pretty area.
The Pancake Pantry is quite popular and a reported celebrity hotspot. However, if you would like to avoid the lines which will be around the block for breakfast, you can find the same type of meal at IHOP or Bob Evans.
Try the Sub Stop for lunch. I've heard from some of the locals that they have what is considered the best sandwiches in town, and here's a tip. You will see celebrities stopping in here for lunch on a regular basis.

3 Important Issues to Consider in Applying For a UK Spouse Visa in Thailand
Thai Spouses of UK citizens who wish to join their partner and settle in the UK are qualified to apply for a UK Spouse Visa in Thailand. The UK Spouse visa will allow the holder to live and work in the UK for two years. Near the expiration of the allowed time to stay, if the couple is still married and living together, the Thai spouse may then apply for a permanent residency in the UK. There are three significant issues to consider before filing an application for a UK Spouse Visa in Thailand. These are as follows:
1. The Legal Marriage and genuine ongoing relationship.
This can be supported by submitting the original copy of the Marriage Certificate along with other documents. Another way of proving the marital relationship is by showing pictures or recorded videos taken during the wedding ceremony or the actual Marriage Registration. You must be able to show exchange of correspondence such us letters, postcards, chats, emails, telephone bills, photos together and even receipts of money transfers. Plane tickets, boarding passes and hotel bookings can also be used as proof to show that you have done things and traveled together. Both the applicant and sponsor should also write a letter about their relationship stating how and when the first meeting took place, how the relationship developed and express each eagerness and desire to be with each other to spend life together as family.
2. The Sponsor's current Financial Position and Accommodation in the UK.
The UK Embassy in Bangkok and its commercial organization partner, VFS, will check if the sponsor has the capability to support the future spouse's stay in the UK without asking help from the public funds. To affirm and establish this requirement, the sponsor must provide his/her latest six months bank statements, employment certificate, at least 3 months recent pay slips, house title deed, mortgage or contract with the landlord. To strengthen this requirement, a photo of the sponsor's house in the UK (including every room) is a must.
3. Age requirement is at least 21 years old.
This is very simple. If the applicant is below 21 years of age, the sponsor must wait until the applicant is 21 before applying for a spouse visa. This rule applies the same way to the sponsor. Thus, none of the couples must be under 21 during the application. Both of them must be of legal age for the Thai spouse to be issued a UK Spouse Visa in Thailand.

How to Travel Cheap - Family Vacation on a Budget
Almost everyone loves to travel. I sure do, but I have to do so on a budget. If you are looking for ideas on how to travel cheap with your family, I've gathered a few hints together that may help you.
If you'd like to vacation at the beach, try getting several relatives together and split the cost of a rental on the beach. This will save you money in several ways. First and foremost, the cost of the rental will be split between all of you, and second, you will save money on meals because you can cook many of them yourself at the place you are renting. My family did this one year, we split between 3 families and it is one of my most memorable vacations ever. It was right on the beach and so much fun to wake up and take a long walk on the beach without many crowds and without being in a hurry to go anywhere. We ate out plenty, but we did save quite a bit by cooking quite a few of our own meals. Great fun.
Another great low-cost idea on how to travel cheap is camping. Now I will admit I am not much of a camper unless I have electricity, air conditioning, a shower, etc. But I know that there are many people who really enjoy the great outdoors complete with tent and sleeping bags. Kids really love this too! So if you are the outdoorsy type, give it a try on your next vacation and save some serious money at the same time. I can't vouch for this personally but those in the know say it is really enjoyable. If you are one like me who likes to travel with the RV or camper, places like Jellystone Park Camp Resorts and KOA are well known and plentiful, and they offer many family activities that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Here's another tip on how to travel cheap if you are planning a vacation to another state. Go online and check out the local newspaper. There are many deals and advertisements on how to save money, plus lots of local activities with coupons. If you can, have a copy mailed to you.
If possible, try to take your family on vacation in the off season, meaning try to avoid the middle of the summer or right at holidays. Sometimes you can get your kids some time out of school if they will make up the work. Or maybe you will be visiting some cultural areas with museums and science centers, and you can have your kids write up a paper for extra credit. Traveling in the off season is a great idea on how to travel cheap.
Finally, remember to purchase necessities before you leave (for example, sunscreen, aspirin, deodorant, toothpaste). These can be more costly if you have to buy them at the shop in the hotel. Purchase beforehand at the discount store or even the dollar store to save a few bucks.
These are just a few tips on how to travel cheap and have a great family vacation.

Bangkok, Capital of Thailand
Bangkok's history dates back to the year 1782 when it was established by the first monarch of the Chakri dynasty. It is the heart and soul of Thailand. The city is the center of spiritual, commercial, cultural, and educational activities. Spanning an area of more than 1500 square kilometers, it houses more than 10 million people
Bangkok has grown to become an exciting and enchanting city. Bangkok is a city, which offers you the best of both the worlds - the urban life on one hand and the world of cultural ambience on the other hand. It is the perfect combination of the archaic and the modernized world. The cosmopolitan or the urban life is experienced if one walks down the streets of the Bangkok city. At night time, the city comes alive with dazzling lights, sizzling food, range of spicy restaurants, dancing festivals, and bustling market places at every nook and corner.
The cultural and the spiritual air is sensed when one enters the numerous Buddhist temples in the city. The burnished image of the Buddha, the saffron-clad monks, and the resounding silence of the temples immediately bring a sense of peace to mind and a feeling of timelessness.
Sailing through the Venice of the East canals and Chao Phraya River, the River of Kings, one can catch a glimpse of the old Bangkok and savor its traditional way of life as well. Since this city was never colonized, its culture and heritage is still untouched and pure. Therein lies the unstated beauty of Bangkok.

Makola Shopping Mall - Accra
When one thinks of Makola in Accra, one thinks of a market rather than a mall. However, Makola Shopping Mall predates its fashionable cousins at East Legon and at Tetteh Quarshie by almost 20 years.
Unlike A&C and Accra shopping malls which trace their origins to western style high street shopping; Makola has emerged out of an authentically African market trading tradition. Shop keepers and stall holders live together in a happy confusion and a few mobile traders still weave their way through the throngs of shoppers hawking their wares. What Makola does share with its upmarket relations is convenience. Shoppers are able to access a wide range of consumer goods in one central location.
Makola Shopping Mall boasts two car parks, one behind the shopping centre and another tight but shady one beneath the complex. The cost of parking underground is GHS1.75. This might seem a bit pricey but there is no time limit and you have the reward of returning to a cool car after a few hours of bargain hunting. Although the building has been designed to be breezy, this is not an air-conditioned mall and trekking through the maze of corridors over 3 floors can be hot work.
So who should go to Makola Shopping Mall? Well, this is hands-down a women's domain. Everything the lady wants for her personal care and upkeep is available in massive quantity at this consumer's paradise. The shopping mall caters for every type of woman for every occasion and the whole place is awash with colour. Plastic hair decorations, traditional Ghanaian glass beads, copper jewellery, batiks and waxes all jostle side by side in brash splendour. Wigs, bags, shoes and toiletries galore, crowd together in an almost obscene abundance.
The business woman will find as much, if not more, to meet her needs at Makola as in the newer, shinier shopping malls. For a start, there is no other place in Accra where the shopper has a choice from as large a range of business suits. For about GHS100 you can walk away with a brand new European or American tailored suit that is fit for the boardroom. Heals B, Sandio's and Lenec Boutique all specialize in formal wear. Aside from suits they have a good selection of designer clothing for evening occasions and weddings etc.
Anyone needing cosmetics should look no further than Makola Shopping Mall. This is a haven for the beauty conscious lady. There are stalls stacked high with makeup, perfume and hair care products which range from cheap goods to exclusive designer names. You get the sense that the sellers are veterans in the trade and can be seen expertly advising on products and applying makeovers to prospective buyers. Makola Shopping Mall is also the home of Sleek Cosmetics and their group of glitzy air-conditioned shops, most reminiscent of the modern shopping mall experience, dominates a section of the lower level.
Men have not been entirely erased from the Makola consciousness. Men's business suits are also available and there is an excellent range of African shirts and suits at highly competitive prices. Sportswear and sporting paraphernalia also has a good presence. Inexpensive locally or Chinese made football shirts are on sale and Sportnet Ltd, the leading retailer in Ghana for quality sports goods and the Lotto brand name, has an extremely respectable air-conditioned outlet here.
Getting to Makola Shopping Mall in Accra, is easy enough with sometimes heavy traffic posing the only hindrance. It is located in central Accra and therefore easily accessible from any of the suburbs. This is not a shopping mall to visit just to be seen looking good at, but rather for people with a serious buying agenda. So for the lady especially, looking for that special something, a trip down to Makola Shopping Mall is highly recommended but she should remember to leave her high heels at home.

The Loy Krathong Festival - Lighting Up the Chao Phraya
The Loy Krathong Festival is one of the most colorful Thai festivals celebrated nationwide. Processions of beautiful girls
dressed in traditional costumes carry floral floats that are
floated on rivers and lakes. Each province has its special
features in celebrating this annual Festival of Lights.
In Bangkok the highlight of the Loy Krathong Festival was a
procession of boats from the Royal Thai Navy decorated with
various designs and lights presented by various organizations
held nightly from 13 - 16 November 2005.
It was a spectacular floating kaleidoscope flickering in the
night along the Chao Phraya River from the Taksin Bridge to
King Rama VIII Bridge against a backdrop of historical
monuments lighted up for the occasion.
The Loy Krathong
tradition
What's the significance of this festival beyond the color and
pageantry?
The Loy Krathong Festival is a 13th century Sukhothai
tradition of Brahmin origin, adapted to Buddhism, to give
thanks to the Goddess of water and to seek forgiveness for past
misdeeds.
This tradition is particularly strong in agricultural societies
where the river gives life and sustenance in a close bond
between Man and Nature. To the millions of farmers
dependant on its source of water, the Chao Phraya is the river
of life.
Held on the 15th night of the new moon in the twelve-month of
the Thai calendar, the Loy Krathong Festival usually falls in
the third or fourth week of November.
The Loy Krathong ritual
In the ritual, the person kneels by the water, says a prayer,
makes a wish, asks for forgiveness and floats (loy) off the
lighted krathong. Courting couples float off a krathong
together under the full moon and watch as the krathong drifts
towards the fulfillment of their dreams.
Making the krathong
Made entirely from natural material, traditional krathongs
consist of a small slice of banana trunk to serve as the float,
which is decorated with banana leaves, multi-colored orchids,
lotus and bright yellow marigolds, a candle and three joss
sticks.
In the old days, sharpened wooden slivers are used to pin the
leaves. Nails and staples have replaced these today. It's
customary to leave some coins and a strain of your hair in the
krathong to bring in good fortune and carry away the bad.
Merrymaking on Loy Krathong
night
Locally the Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated at various
locations near the Chao Phraya River, which are buzzing with
activity, heightening as one reaches the riverbanks.
Roads to the piers are filled with vendors and buskers as
crowds patiently inch their way to the banks packed with
people of all ages. Many queue for boats to float their
krathongs mid-stream. The celebration goes on for the whole
night with more people arriving in the early hours.
Protecting the
environment
Cleaning up the rivers and canals after the festival is a
formidable task. On 17 November 2005, the morning after, it
took 4,000 cleaners to retrieve 1.2 million krathongs in
Bangkok alone!
The City administration discourages the use of Styrofoam, as
these are non-biodegradable. The more enterprising have
baked bread in the shape of krathongs that are consumed by
fishes.
Towards a better
tomorrow
As fireworks burst overhead lighting the dark Bangkok skies,
another Loy Krathong Festival comes to an end. Meanwhile
the krathongs drift along the Chao Phraya carrying with them
the hopes of thousands wishing for a better tomorrow.
If you're in Bangkok during the next Loy Krathong Festival,
view the festivities at any of the Chao Phraya river piers. For a panoramic view, stay at one of the riverside hotels or take a river cruise by night.

Senior Chatrooms Are Dangerous! - Over 50? Here's What YOU Need to Know
Chat Rooms can be dangerous places, especially if you're the type of person who freely provides personal information. Unfortunately, some less scrupulous individuals will try to gain your trust with their main intention of trying to scam you their number one goal.
So it pays to be vigilant and never disclose anything in a Chat Room that could be used to identify or defraud you. Obvious things to remember would be never to post your real name or postal address.
Even with bad press, there has been an explosion of Chat Room and Profile websites appearing all over the Internet, and for good reason, it can be a fun and enjoyable way to meet new and interesting people the world over.
Some of the better Chat Rooms are moderated in an attempt to filter out those individuals that are up to no-good, and largely, this works well. Often it's the actual members of a Chat website who oversee things, the idea being, the more people who monitor the rooms the better the overall chat experience will be.
At fist glance you would be forgiven for thinking that Chat Rooms were solely for the young and computer literate. This simply is not the case as more and more over 50's and seniors discover the joys of chatting in real-time.
Seniors in particular have discovered new ways of using Chat Rooms as a great pastime and means of making new lasting worldwide friendships. Less mobile, and seniors who have become isolated for whatever reason are turning to Chat Rooms and profile sites as a means of reaching out to others in similar circumstances and finding support and friendships that otherwise would have been impossible.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, this may just be the salvation you're after.
People who care for sick or the elderly also benefit from a decent Chat Room as it gives them the chance to voice and vent their frustrations with others.
