Statistics World travel for vagabonds

This is the intersection where dreams and reality collide. So many were led to believe that, one year suspended to travel the world and must sacrifice everything they have worked for the completion of a large loan from the bank, and basically keep in your life.

And this is when they dared to even dream of traveling the world.

To help you understand the obstacles (both real and imaginary), which can travel in, a look into my world > Travel statistics.

First, a brief introduction about the trip. My wife and I recently took a sabbatical and traveled through Southeast Asia, India and Nepal. We bought one-way ticket to Bangkok, traveled by train (and the occasional bus or boat) and ate most of Street Food (which tend to be healthier than cooked in front of you). We lived modestly, but not unpleasant. And 'possible but should not do what we have for 30% less.

These are the worldStatistics Travel>

Cost of living: $ 1,300. This included private rooms for two, sometimes with air conditioning, and a series of Street Food. Maybe once a week we would take in a show or a nice dinner. Alcohol has been limited because of the relative value is ridiculous, in third world countries (a beer costs more than a bungalow in South East Asia). If you intend to drink, you should budget 1:59 dollars for each drink in this part of the world.

VisaRates: $ 80 per month. Different places like Thailand and Singapore do not require visas for Americans, although some (including Nepal and Vietnam) are quite expensive and increases costs for entry into certain areas.

Flights: $ 2700 We bought a one way ticket to Bangkok, and a way back from Moscow, which has pushed the price significantly. to have the same amount, we could make a series of World Ticket, with 8:00 to 10:00 receivedDestinations. The problem was that $ 5,400 was too much money to be paid in advance (we were working on the road).

Trains: $ 2000. I admit, this is an estimate because not keep receipts for all our trips. If you were in Southeast Asia, remain instead of taking the train from Beijing to Moscow, like us, you can only spend half of that amount.

Total 21 260 spent two: $ Not. Bad. For less than $ 1,000 per month per person, we could makewhat most people only dream of. I hope to travel the world of statistics allow to realize that the world is not seen as expensive as you might think. Of course, you could go to Europe and spend twice that amount, or go to Africa or South America for a bit 'more, but have learned the lesson is this: there, to make the numbers. Try to eliminate all monthly expenses at home, and on the road!
