The Bangkok Tuk Tuk-Trick

Bangkok is a city very famous for its advertisers and scammers. But some have become so popular that lead a very sheltered life, she would fall for.

This fraud is run by some of the city Tuk-tuk drivers. Are outside the popular websites (especially popular is the Grand Palace stroll) and try to say it is closed for a holiday. Despite the fact that you can clearly see that is open and people streaming in and out! However, people stillfall for it and one day I decided it might be fun, because there are "themselves and see where I am alone.

Well, first let me fill you exactly what is fraud. They will tell you that takes you on a tour of the great temples of Bangkok, usually with a combination of "Lucky Buddha, Golden Buddha," "Big Buddha" and other fancy names! And do, in fact, is necessary for a temple or two on the road and wait out the end. And these areTemples, they would not otherwise have seen during your stay.

The capture is eventually abandon them when their brother / uncle / friend or gem cutter shop. Here you will find some object of high pressure sales tactics that are now can be uncomfortable for some people. Having lived in Thailand with Thai inlaws and I felt good with it, had a quick look around and politely declined and left. Certainly not something you do not want to buy, are under pressure.

And whatIf the tuk-tuk driver get out of this thing? So here are a bit 'confused. They say they have some brands that can exchange gas at local gas station. But I think that getting a sort of committee to bring tourists into shops paid.

As for my trip, I decided to play tourist. Dressed Beer Chang T-shirts and trousers to three quarters with a backpack, I looked the part! Sure enough, as I approached the entrance to the Grand Palace grounds, I wasapproached by a friendly driver named James (a common Thai nickname). He informed me that the Grand Palace was closed for maintenance work (a variant that I had not heard before, other holiday stories may, Buddhist ceremony, including King in residence). James has kindly offered to take some beautiful temples, rather than a flat rate of 20 baht. I'm jumping up and left. First stop Indrawihan Wat (photo on my website link below). The temple itself is pretty standard, the most importantThe attraction is very impressive standing Buddha. Next stop, just down the road was Benjamabophit Wat, the temple is worth a visit, laden with Italian marble gleaming in the sun.

James informed me that another station would then make us on our Grand Tour, a government fantastic tailor who had a special promotion for today only. What luck! Sure enough, five minutes later, we stopped in front of him. "In this way, sir ..." He opened the door and waited outside. The owner and hisAssistant came running over, "The Lord is clothed?" I'll pretty blouses, special promotion, "etc. etc. etc. I had mood for a few minutes, a quick scroll apologized then me (which I later returned) and left.

I asked James if he would take me home, he replied: "Sure, but first I need to take to buy Gem Shop, special promotion, it is cheap" and so on. At this point, I decided and went to the nearby main road and caught a taxi home.

These drivers get paid for every dropthey do, try to take the points of sale as possible. One thing to remember is to not get angry in Thailand will not win anything. If you find that you are cheated, or if you just had enough, then politely make your excuses and removed. Crying and angry can be very fast in an ugly clash that WIN did not increase.

Well I never felt threatened or intimidated during the excursion, but that maybe because of my previous experience inCountry. I never saw someone in trouble because of this fraud, is the only thing you can not buy something you want to feel pressured, and I've always heard of people into the argument when you try to listen again to get where they wanted to be. And as mentioned, keep calm and if the driver was stubborn, just go away and get the next taxi. It is worth not always struggling for a few baht!

spent now for me, with a lot of time in Thailand thiswas not a problem because I was curious to see it in person. But for someone with little time in Bangkok, this is a fraud scandal, sour taste that you could start with one.

As with any party, keep your wits about you and not believe everything you said!

Bangkok Canal Tour

I visited Bangkok many times before and never used a boat to the channel. I often read about them a great alternative to move to Bangkok, and gives you good access to other parts of the city. On my last visit in October 2009, I decided to take a ride on Khlong Saen Saeb have. This channel has two lines at Pratunam Pier for commercial purposes. It should be ends in West lines Fhan FHA, near Wat Saket (Golden Mount) and the other east allthe way to Bang Kapi.

I went with mine (Thai) wife did not dare to negotiate on my own my first attempt! We hiked up to the Pratunam Pier, the channel is rather bleak and as most of Bangkok, the pavement and the bridge down to the poor condition. The channel itself seems dirty, that do not fall! But this is Bangkok, and we expect this type, and for me it's all part of the city with charm. We jumped on a boat in the directionFhan FHA first time through the first quarter Pathumwan next Phetburi wizzer congested road. On the right side of the vast Platinum Fashion Mall and Pantip Plaza is famous for all the things you can see hi-tech.

Now, after a few minutes I ask what you paid, the seats on board was organized into rows without walkways in between. Shuffle Along is basically going to allow more people in. Then a woman appeared beside me, complete with helmet, hiking along the edge of the boat! He collected our fees and leaned rates of people gather to avoid next to us before ducking in the middle of a bridge on arrival.

Before we knew we were right behind the house of Jim Thompson. If you are struggling to get help this population to JT's House, is a fairly central and well-known landmark, close to Siam Square and MBK shopping center.

Around this area you can offer some insights into an old way of capturing lifestyle> Bangkok, as we begin to see some of the canal was built around the apartment. Keep a camera handy, you bypass a Flash!

The penultimate port stop in Bo-Be Market, the famous market of clothing. We stayed until the end of the line when you get off, climb stairs and left on a bridge on Thanon Bonphat and see the Golden Mount. If you are in the opposite direction along Thanon Ratchdamnoen, go to your left is Wat Ratchanatdaram. The main attraction is Loha Prasat(Metal Palace) and other outstanding buildings. A little 'more down the road you can see the Democracy Monument.

We have reported the transfer by boat to Pratunam and the other line with the intention to organize an event to stop and eat lunch somewhere. We decided to stop 9 (Thong Lo), which is a trendy and emerging success in the Market Place shopping center. In the restaurant there Mama Do Suki, similar to MK, but with different soups are available (soup,Cook food). If you're ever going Thong Lo, I would recommend it.

After lunch, we decided to head again, but at the foot of the return journey home. So we took the ferry to Witthayu. The station is down near Thanon Witthayu (Wireless Road), near the British Embassy. We walked the 20-30 minutes or so to Lumpini Park, we were prepared to drink and sat in the shade for a while 'before you return home.

I would recommend this as a good alternative way toand discovering new places in Bangkok. One way to discover the places in the city is lost (as long as you remember your way back to the channel!) to receive.
